PCMH is but one element of the changing landscape – we’re broadening the view to cover a broader range of key issues facing health care executives
By Jay I. Pomerantz, MD – Executive Medical Director for Health Integrated

We have had such a good response to the PCMH Community Blog since its inception last June. Thank you all for reading and sharing your thoughts. The comments and feedback we have received from you and others have been very positive.

Over the last year, we have facilitated the discussion around the PCMH and how this program could positively affect a health plan in today’s environment. There is no doubt that the potential impact of PCMH on health care remains strong. That said, you have asked that we address other key issues that you face on a daily basis in the constantly changing and dynamic healthcare environment we are all a part of today. We have heard your request.

In the same time that the PCMH Community Blog has been growing, so has participation in the Health Integrated Executive Leadership Series (ELS) events, which happen twice per year. These meetings are a unique opportunity for health plan executives, national policy thought leaders and health management experts to gather and share ideas and perspectives on some of the most challenging issues facing health plans today.

The synergy between topics, as well as the collaborative forum which has catalyzed a high level of engagement and discussion is in synch with the direction you have encouraged us to take with the PCMH Blog. To this end, we are expanding the focus of the PCMH Community Blog to encompass much broader discussions that affect health executive management.

Going forward, the blog will be known as the Health Executive Leadership Blog. Topics we’ll cover may include:
• MLR Management
• Growth in Medicare and Medicaid
• Reform legislation
• Mental health parity initiatives
• Focused utilization management for clinical appropriateness
• Utilization management
• Managing high-risk patient populations
• Effective reimbursement strategies to meet the needs of new practice approaches
• Integrated health management
• Healthcare challenges of the future
• Patient Centered Medical Home (of course!)

These topics and others continue to be top of mind for many health plan executives. It is our goal to bring you the latest thinking in these areas. It is our intent to introduce you to key industry opinion leaders and their thinking as well. By expanding the topic palette for the blog, combined with other forums for key idea and information exchange like the ELS meetings, it is our hope that we can facilitate sharing and implementation of Best Practices within the healthcare system to everyone’s mutual benefit.

I welcome your comments on these and other topics that would be of interest to you. Please post your comment on the Blog or contact me directly at healthexecforum@healthintegrated.com. Thanks in advance for your readership and feedback.

Best Regards,

Jay I. Pomerantz, MD
